I am loving SGU more and more with each episode. OMG I hate Telford with a passion. And love Rush. The glorious bastard that he is. I loved his little "you will be happy to know that we will not be exploding". HEE! As for Young. Wow, um, awkward timing. But you're kinda asking for something like that to happen if you're doing it in someone else's body.

So yeah, definitely enjoying this show.

P.S. I really shouldn't try to type these things up when I've had a few.

I finally got a chance to rewatch part 1. It wasn't as bad the second time around, but it was still sorta ehh. Wasn't really too impressed. But there were parts to love, including Arthur calling Merlin a "true friend" and telling him that the next time he catches Merlin not sexing him up with he's naked in bed he's going to feed him to the dogs (He totally said that! Read the subtext people!). And blissfully happy Uther is very creepy. Also Merlin was both really incredibly adorable and really incredibly hot in the episode. So the episode had its good moments, but left me underwhelmed for the most part. Though, I do have to give credit to Sarah Parrish for her brilliant acting.

As for part 2, that doesn't air until tomorrow, but I saw this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRJduz0-PVs&feature=channel

OMG!!!! *SQUEE!* ARTHURISSOINLOVEWITHMERLIN!!!!!
I've just woken up from probably the most horrific nightmare I've ever had. It was so gruesome that I think I almost became lucid, aware that I was dreaming, because what I was seeing was so ghastly I just could not...even my unconscious mind's eye had to turn itself away from the horror I was witnessing. Oh God. I'm still shaking and crying and sick to my stomach. I have never a dream that has left me so unsettled as this one. I don't think I'm going to be able to go back to sleep. I can't even conceive where, what my unconscious mind has to work out and resolve that it would to do so in such a manner.

Lancelot & Guinevere and The Beauty & the Beast, Pt. 1

I probably won’t get around to doing a full review of Lancelot and Guinevere. But I did have a few quick things I wanted to say about the Arthur/Guinevere/Lancelot triangle in the episode.

I think the writers have done a good job with this triangle. I really felt for Arthur in this episode, but also a great deal for Guinevere. I don’t think anybody can really blame her for falling for Lancelot. Arthur had already said they could never be (or at least not in the foreseeable future), and here comes Lancelot—a man she had already had some sense of connection with—all gorgeous and heroic and saving her life. And he obviously is quite infatuated with her. Under the circumstances, it is more than natural for Gwen to develop some romantic feelings in return. But it is all very sudden and new—same for Arthur and her as well. I don’t think any of them really understand what it is they feel for each other—they only know that they feel deeply. I think Merlin’s “You want to marry Gwen?” and Arthur’s reaction is a clear demonstration of this. Arthur knows he feels deeply for Gwen, but he doesn’t quite know what to make of it and what it means. So he’s doing the honorable thing by not pursuing it. And even if he does decide that what he feels for her is love, being with her would be dangerous because of Uther—much more so for her than him. It wouldn’t be right asking her to risk being with him despite Uther’s objections and neither would it be fair asking her to wait for him. The honorable thing is to let her go, despite how much that hurts. Arthur knows this and even says as much. He really broke my heart in this episode.

But I also really feel for Guinevere. She obviously cares for Arthur but knows as much as he does the impossibility of it. So when Lance comes along she allows herself to feel for him as well. Unfortunately, she has excellent taste in men—as far as quality goes. Arthur and Lancelot are both strong, brave, and noble men. The problem is both think it is they are doing the honorable thing by letting her go—Arthur because of the risk such a romance would pose to her and Lancelot because he believes he can’t offer her what Arthur can. So she ends up alone. It’s all so heartbreaking, but at the same time, very well written. And I am very much looking forward to see how all of this develops in the future.

As for last night’s episode—I think I’ll need to rewatch it when I’m less sleep deprived. Because I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as a lot of my f-list. In fact, my immediate reaction upon finishing it late last night was “that wasn’t that good.” But as I read everybody else’s reactions to it and think over it myself, I think perhaps the lack of sleep negated a lot of the more comedic elements to it. So I’m going to rewatch it later—when I’ve gotten some sleep—and see how I feel about it then.

<lj:music>I Want You So Hard - Eagles of Death Metal</lj:music>

Right. Long overdue review. Written during work on Sunday. So nothing new then.

Anyway, probably nothing that hasn’t already been said, but my belated two cent.

The thing I am most fascinated about in this episode is the manifestation of Morgana’s magic. It seems to me that it is being forced from her as a fear response—driven by that emotion—and therefore, very violent as a result. In essence it is born of a primitive instinct, but as she has no control over it, it is potentially very dangerous. I am very interested to see how it will continue to present itself now that she knows she is magical and isn’t as afraid of it. Will it continue to manifest as a fear response? I’m inclined to think it might.

If Morgana’s magic continues to present itself as a result of fear (or possibly another darker emotion), I wonder how much control she will have over it at first. The druids most likely could have taught her how to control her magic without emotion—and how to suppress her instinctual responses. But now that they are gone, I suspect that she will learn to control her magic only by tapping into those darker emotions with first manifested them. It will mean that her magic would be coming from a darker place than Merlin’s—and could be another push in the direction of the darker arts for her.

And while I understand Merlin’s decision not to tell her, I still really wish he had told her. I honestly expected him to in that last scene between the two of them. I feel only bad things will happen as a result of his not telling her.

With regards to Morgana’s and Merlin’s relationship, I want so much to ship them. But I can’t. Not as long as Merlin is keeping his magic a secret from her. And can easily imagine them having all sorts of fun and sexytimes, but it’s always in my mind after Morgana finds out about Merlin’s magic. So as much as I want to ship them, I don’t think I’ll be shipping them very seriously until after Morgana finds out.

But that’s okay because there are loads of other ships on this show. Especially Arthur/Merlin. ♥ I loved them in this episode. Arthur’s suspicious expressions when Merlin had those flowers behind his back…I was giggling so hard. And then Arthur being all, “Where are my flowers?” *squee* Oh, and when Merlin bends over to pick up the sword, Arthur’s eyes totally stray downward. Don’t believe me? Watch it. They totally do.

And while I know that Arthur was talking about Gwen with the whole “can’t be her friend, let alone anything else” line, I can’t help but feel that it applies as equally to Arthur and Merlin’s relationship. And it breaks my heart a little. Especially combined with Merlin’s sad face over still having to keep his secret from Arthur. Oh, Merlin. *huggles*

So yeah, I really liked this episode, and the thing I think I liked the most is that there is likely to be many repercussions from this episode: Merlin’s decision not to tell Morgana about his magic, Morgana now knowing she is magical, Arthur wiping out the druids (following his father’s orders, but nonetheless the one essentially responsible for wiping out Modred’s people). All these things are going to affect how the future plays out. And I’m really excited to see how it does.

    <lj:music>The Trial of Lancelot - Heather Dale</lj:music>

Okay, here's the second part of my Arthur/Guinevere/Lancelot fanmix. This part is set in the future, starting from around the time Arthur becomes king (and is able to marry Gwen) to after his death. This part follows the legend, which includes Lancelot's and Guinevere's love affair, so if you want a happy ending, you'd better stop with part 1. But I did my best not to vilify anyone, but instead tried to present everyone's point of view in a somewhat sympathetic light. I'm not certain I was 100% successful, but I still like what I came up with. Hope you like it too.

Weakness in Me – Part 2 of an Arthur/Guinevere/Lancelot Fanmix

1. Trouble Is – Backstreet Boys [Lancelot]
Lancelot can’t forget about Gwen.

So every day I try a little harder
To forget her
Lie here convince myself
Tomorrow will be better

The trouble is I can't get her out of my mind
When I close my eyes at night
Who's gonna save me
Now she's gone
The trouble is there's a part of me
That still can't let go of her memory
And now I know what it is
Love is what the trouble is

2. As I Am – Heather Dale* [Arthur]
Arthur’s proposal to Guinevere.

Don't take me out of duty, don't take me out of pride
Just take me if the man you see is one you'd stand beside
I'm offering an open heart, I'm asking for your hand
And I only ask you take me, you take me as I am

3. I Just Call You Mine – Martina McBride [Gwen]
As Arthur becomes a great king, loved and respected, Gwen stands by his side and knows how lucky she is.

And everyone who sees you
Always wants to know you
And everyone who knows you
Always have a smile
You're standing ovation after years of waiting
For a chance to finally shine
Everyone calls you amazing
I just call you mine

4. Breathe Easy – Blue [Lancelot]
As he serves his king as a Knight of the Round Table, Lancelot is constantly reminded of the love that he gave up.

Cruel to the eye
I see the way he makes you smile
Cruel to the eye
Watching him hold what used to be mine

Why did I lie?
What did I walk away to find?
Oh, why, oh, why?

5. The Weakness in Me – Joan Armatrading [Gwen]
Gwen is not immune to Lancelot’s presence and discovers that she still has feelings for him.

I’m not the sort of person who falls in and quickly out of love
But to you I gave my affection right from the start
I have a lover who loves me
How could I break such a heart?
But still you get my attention

6. Love Affair – Copeland [Gwen]
Gwen can’t help how she feels for Lancelot.

Oh she'd lie on her bed
And stare into harsh white light
And think that her heart's not right

'Cause love took her hand like a thief,
took her heart like a robber
and the feelings that scare her
become her relief

7. In Another’s Eyes – Garth Brooks & Trisha Yearwood [Lancelot & Gwen]
Guinevere’s and Lancelot’s guilt over their betrayals.

In another’s eyes
I’m afraid that I can’t see
This picture perfect portrait
That they paint of me
They don’t realize
And I pray they never do
‘Cause every time I look
I’m seein’ you
In another’s eyes

8. Lie – David Cook [Arthur]
Arthur is not entirely ignorant of Gwen’s deception, but he loves her to much to want to discover the truth.

You're hiding regret in your smile
There's a storm in your eyes I've seen coming for awhile
Hold on to the past tense tonight
Don't say a word,
I'm okay with the quiet
The truth is gonna change everything

So lie to me and tell me that it's gonna be alright
So lie to me and tell me that we'll make it through the night
I don't mind if you wait before you tear me apart
Look me in the eye,
Lie, lie, lie

9. Guinevere- Edwin McCain [Lancelot]
How his love for Gwen (and betrayal of Arthur) weakens Lancelot.

And the silver shine is tarnished from my armor
And in battle I am paralyzed with fear
And this poison in my soul is the love we’ll never know
And it finds me playing Lancelot to your Guinevere

10. The Trial of Lancelot – Heather Dale* [Lancelot, Arthur]
The lovers are discovered and Lancelot is put on trial.

King Arthur's knights, they filled the Table Round,
Save for one who stood before them,
For once without a weapon;
For once he stood in shame.
The trial's charge was treason
And betrayal of an oath,
And should his guilt be proven
Death would fall on traitors both!
The knights would counsel Arthur's hard decision.

And Lancelot, his head held high, said,
"I'm tried for love of Guinevere...
My crime was love."

11. Apologize – OneRepublic [Arthur]
Though he still loves her, Arthur cannot forgive Gwen.

I'd take another chance, take a fall
Take a shot for you
And I need you like a heart needs a beat
But it's nothing new
I loved you with a fire red
Now it's turning blue, and you say
"Sorry" like the angel heaven let me think was you
But I'm afraid

It's too late to apologize, it's too late
I said it's too late to apologize, it's too late

12. Sorrow – King Arthur Soundtrack [Arthur]
The death of Arthur.

[Instrumental]

13. Miles to Go – Heather Dale* [Gwen]
Guinevere’s atonement for her sins.

I hear he died alone
Surrounded by the bodies of his knights
And heaven wept until no tears would come
I swore I would atone
For failing him and shadowing his light
With all the things I did and should have done

.zip folder

*I realize I’ve used three of Heather Dale’s songs in this mix. I debated whether or not to include these, but her songs are just so gorgeous and really give these three characters such depth--I would be hard pressed to find other songs that tell this story half as well. But if you liked these three, you should really check out more of her music. The Trial of Lancelot and May Queen are two albums of hers that are devoted entirely to tales in Arthurian legend. Not only does she have more songs about these three, but also she has some incredible Morgan le Fay/Mordred songs which are just fantastic. Her other albums are incredible as well and include songs about Joan of Arc, Medusa, Robin Hood, and a lot of other legends and stories from the past.

    <lj:music>As I Am - Heather Dale</lj:music>

I've suddenly got this random image in my head of Spock trying to explain to Uther that magic is illogical. I'm trying my best not to crack up laughing as my coworkers will probably think I'm crazy.

I'm also seeing Spock developing a fastination with Merlin and wanting to study him to how his magic works. Bones is absolutely horrified by Gaius's barbaric medical practices. Uhura is making great friends with both Gwen and Morgana. And I can't even tell you what Kirk is up to.

I want this fanfic so bad.

    <lj:music>Secret Love - Jim Brickman</lj:music>

This triangle has been eating my brain pretty much since the beginning of the season, but especially since seeing Lancelot and Guinevere. So I made a fanmix. ^_^ It's kinda long, so I separated it into two parts. The first part is pretty much what we've seen so far on the show (BEWARE: SPOILERS), plus a few hopeful songs at the end. The second part is based in the future, when Arthur is king and Guinevere is queen.

Anyway, here it is. Hope you enjoy! ^_^

Words I Couldn’t Say – Part 1 of an Arthur/Guinevere/Lancelot Fanmix

1. Kiss the Girl – Ashley Tinsdale [Arthur]
Arthur wants to kiss Gwen.

There you see her
Sitting there across the way
She don't got a lot to say
But there's something about her
And you don't know why
But you're dying to try
You wanna kiss the girl

2. A Moment Like This – Kelly Clarkson [Gwen]
Basically a tribute to the epicness of Arthur’s and Gwen’s kiss and how it changed everything.

A moment like this
Some people wait a lifetime for a moment like this
Some people search forever for that one special kiss
I can’t believe it’s happening to me
Some people wait a lifetime for a moment like this

3. All at Once – The Fray [Arthur]
Arthur realizes that he is falling for Gwen, but he knows that his father’s will never allow it. So instead of admitting his feelings, he ends it, even though he very obviously cares for her.

And all at once the crowd begins to sing
Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same

Maybe you want her, maybe you need her
Maybe you started to compare to someone not there
Maybe you want it, maybe you need it
Maybe it's all you're running from
Perfection will not come

4. I’m Not That Girl – Idina Menzel [Gwen]
Gwen is enough of a realist to know that a romance between a maidservant and a prince is impossible.

Don't dream too far
Don't lose sight of who you are
Don't remember that rush of joy
He could be that boy
I'm not that girl

5. Secret – Heart [Arthur & Gwen]
Arthur’s and Gwen’s secret longings for each other.

We lead two different lives
Just like two lines that never cross
And here we are together
Standing closer than we are
But we're still standing here untouched
Too scared to make a move
We want so much to touch
And we can't wait forever
We know it's dangerous
For us to be together

6. Hero – Enrique Iglesias [Lancelot]
Gwen gets kidnapped and Lancelot comes to her rescue, making his feelings for her more than obvious.

Would you tremble if I touched your lips?
Would you laugh oh please tell me these
Now would you die for the one you love?
Hold me in your arms tonight?

I can be you hero baby
I can kiss away the pain
I will stand by you forever
You can take my breath away

7. If I Didn’t Know Any Better – Alison Krauss [Gwen]
Gwen can’t help but return some of Lancelot’s feelings.

I turned around
Before I could run
I found you already settled down
In the back of my mind
I know this is just a customary fever
The moon is a deceiver
That will leave you running blind

Your heart is pullin'
If I didn't know any better
I'd be fallin' deeper and deeper it's true
I'd hear it callin'
If I didn't know any better
And I'd be in love with you

8. Words I Couldn’t Say – Rascal Flatts [Arthur]
Arthur realizes how much he’s in love with Gwen, but thinks it’s too late.

There it was at the tip of my fingers
There it was on the tip of my tongue
There you were and I had never been that far
There it was the whole world wrapped inside my arms
And I let it all slip away

What do I do now that you're gone
No backup plan no second chance
And no one else to blame
All I can hear in the silence that remains
Are the words I couldn’t say

9. She’s Like the Wind – Patrick Swayze [Lancelot]
Lancelot realizes Arthur and Gwen have feelings for each other. And he believes that Gwen deserves much better than him , so he leaves.

Feel her breath on my face
Her body close to me
Can't look in her eyes
She's out of my league
Just a fool to believe
I have anything she needs
She's like the wind

10. Almost Lover – A Fine Frenzy [Gwen]
Gwen is heartbroken to be once again left alone, this time by Lancelot.

Goodbye, my almost lover
Goodbye, my hopeless dream
I'm trying not to think about you
Can't you just let me be?
So long, my luckless romance
My back is turned on you
Should've known you'd bring me heartache
Almost lovers always do

11. Already Over, pt 2 – Red [Arthur]
Even though he believes that he’s lost his chance with Gwen, Arthur can’t help but still love Gwen.

Give it all to you
Reaching as I fall
It's already over now
Loving you again

It's already over, already over now
You're what I reach for when I fall
It's already over

12. New Day – Kate Havnevik [Gwen]
Arthur and Gwen start anew, forgetting the pains of yesterday.

Beautiful day
Watching you as you awake
Morning stars in your eyes
Your hand in mine

The sky is lit up
Day will be richer than night
So don't think of yesterday
It's here and now

13. It is You (I Have Loved) – Dana Glover [Arthur & Gwen]
Arthur and Gwen realize that they have been in love with each other all along.

It's no more mystery
It is finally clear to me
You're the home my heart searched for so long
And it is you I have loved all along

14. Secret Love – Jim Brickman [Arthur & Gwen]
Even though they are in love, they still have to keep their love a secret.

[Instrumental]

.zip folder

I will post Part 2 tomorrow after work since I really need to be getting to bed.

ETA: I've posted part 2.
Merlin 202 - The Once and Future Queen

    <lj:music>How Could You? - Saliva</lj:music>

Oh, I have been loving Merlin this season. It's been just so fantastic and wonderful and the perfect escape and the end of the week. And as such, I find I have a lot to say about each episode, but I've been so busy of late, I haven't had a lot of time to type out my thoughts. So this review is very late.

Anyway, The Once and Future Queen: I loved this episode. And once of my favorite parts was all the JOUSTING! I adore jousting. It's such an amazing sport. I just wish there were more tournaments within driving distance of me. We have a lot of medieval and Renaissance fairs but most of the jousting at them is staged. Which is all well and good, but nothing beats live, full-contact jousting. It is just absolutely incredible to watch. But before I digress (I could go on and on), I will just say that the jousting in the episode was just fantastic, along with the rest of the episode as well.

I loved "Sir" William. He was just so adorable and I was just in stitches through most of his scenes. <3 It's just a shame he won't be around for more episodes because he was such a delight. I am glad that it looks like we'll be seeing more of Sir Leon, because this shows does need a few reoccurring knights, as opposed to all the redshirts.

As for the plot—I loved Arthur's scheme to compete anonymously. Because the need to prove himself (and not just to everybody else but to himself as well) definitely fits with his character. Arthur genuinely wants to be a good leader to his people, and one of the few ways he knows for certain he can be is by being their best warrior. To have that skill called into question, albeit unintentionally, definitely would not sit well with Arthur at all. So yeah, loved seeing Arthur trying to prove himself in the joust.

And discovering he has much more to prove than just his skill on the battlefield in the process. One of the reasons I love this Arthur so much is because he is such a mass of contradictions. How he can be noble and brave and self-sacrificing one moment, and then in the next instant, be a complete spoiled prat. How he is an arrogant prince one minute and an insecure young man the next. How who he wants to be comes into conflict with who he currently is. This episode was very much about those contradictions—and how he is starting to become aware of them because of Gwen.

Oh, Gwen. Beautiful, wonderful, I don’t deserve this crap from you my lord Gwen. I absolutely adore Gwen on this show. Absolutely love her. I like that she’s very humble (being a servant) but hardly meek. How even though she’s aware of her station, she is neither ashamed of it nor about to let herself be treated badly because of it. And I especially love how she’s not afraid to call Arthur out on his rudeness, all the while remembering that he is her lord. Love love love her.

And Arthur’s starting to fall in love with her himself. *squee* I’ll admit that as excited as I was that the writers were going to pursue this relationship this season, I was a little worried it would happen too fast and wouldn’t be believable, especially given their lack of interaction in season 1.. But their interactions this season have been perfect. Because two of the most significant interactions they had in season 1 were those of Gwen demonstrating her faith in Arthur. In both The Moment of Truth and Le Morte d’Arthur, Gwen very clearly states her faith in him as the future King of Camelot. Arthur knows she believes in him. So for her to call him out (again), does make him take notice—especially given he’s already feeling the need to prove himself. So it makes sense that he suddenly has the need to prove himself to her. And given that Gwen is a beautiful, brave, kind, strong and compassionate woman—who not only believes in him but also makes him what to be a better person—it also makes sense that he would start to develop some romantic affection for her.

But the depth of that affection surprised them both. I honestly think Arthur meant that kiss to be more of gentle peck—a sort of thank you for her faith in him. Instead, well, that was a truly epic kiss. Wow. Probably not what he intended at all. His expression afterwards says it all—the shock as he suddenly realizes what just happened between the two of them. It was wonderful and gorgeous. I absolutely loved it.

But despite this unexpected intense attraction between them, both are still aware of who they are. These two don’t kid themselves. They know their positions make a romance between them near impossible. They don’t like it and they both hope for a future when that won’t be the case—one day when Arthur’s king. But they both know that could be a long way off. For now, they know, pursuing this thing between them can only lead to heartbreak. So they don’t. But the longing in their eyes as Arthur walked away was just so heartbreakingly beautiful. *sigh*

So yeah, I really adored this episode. It was full of action and comedy and romantic and was just so beautifully shot. And things just get better from here with The Nightmare Begins and Lancelot and Guinevere. But once again, I don’t have a whole lot of time. Damn life. But since we don’t have a new episode of Merlin next week, I’m hoping I can get my thoughts on the last two posted before the next one airs.

But yeah, I’ve been really loving Merlin. ^_^

Tonight's episode of Universe was really good. I'm really liking Lt. Scott right now. This was really the episode where Scott gets to prove himself to the viewers as a hero. Definitely succeeded in my book. Smart boy with the dust devils. What were those things anyway? I can't decide between alien life and some piece of technology. It was probably meant to be alien life, but for some reason, I can't shake the idea that it was something technological designed to search out water or something. Ridiculous, I know, but I still think its a possibility. But the face in the sand was creepy.

I like Greer too, but he's definitely got a screw or two loose. And Eli is amusing. I adore him already.

As for Rush, I'm still not entirely certain what to think about Rush. But he definitely intrigues me. He also doesn't play well with others.

And I realize Chloe's mother had just lost her husband and possibly her daughter, but seriously, threatening to go public is sooo not the way to go about things. Yeah, let's just see how that friendship with the president and his wife holds up with after that threat.

Anyway, those are my immediate thoughts. So now that we have air, what's next? Food, water, power, trying to kill each other????

Well, I missed the first 15 minutes of Universe because the CABLE WAS OUT!!! But once the cable came back on, I watched it. It was good, I think. Intriguing. Something I can definitely tune into every week.

It was Stargate but definitely a different breed of Stargate. It's hard to describe really. I mean, it's easy to describe the differences from the previous incarnations--its darker, grittier, more real--but how to explain what still made it feel like Stargate? Something in the way it was written, the dialogue and line delivery, the way it was filmed? I don't know. But even without the Stargate and Jack and Carter, it still felt like Stargate.

But also very different from what has come before. Certainly, it will never replace Atlantis in my heart and I don't think I'll adore it the same way I adored SG-1, but I think I will enjoy it.

So, since I'm eagerly awaiting the premiere of Stargate: Universe, I decide I would watch the premiere of Atlantis to pass the time. My goodness, I forgot how good this show was. I'm remembering why I fell in love in the first place. Beautiful score, great humor, good action and pretty visuals (and people). Oh, Atlantis, you were gone before your time. Hopefully, Universe will be just as good. Only, it will never be as fun. *sigh*

Anyway, back to Rising, pt. 2.

Merlin 201 - The Curse of Corneilus Sigan

I meant to post this yesterday but I got distracted with other stuff. Anyway, here is my somewhat belated review of the Merlin season premiere:

Merlin is back and it is wonderful! \o/ Saturday night was so much fun. Not only did I enjoy the episode immensely, but I had someone to enjoy it with me. I’m considered in my family to be something of a freak because of the way I get over-excited about my shows, so it was great having someone else squeeing right along with me. Thanks Jani. ^_^

I really liked this episode, and I didn’t entirely expect to—or at least I thought I would perhaps cringe at certain parts given what I had heard about the episode from the interviews, trailers, etc. I tend to hate plotlines that have one character making another one look like an idiot in order to get ahead. But this wasn’t nearly as bad I had expected it to be. I laughed at least once in every scene that Arthur, Merlin and Cedric were in together. And I think a lot of the credit for that goes to the actors. Bradley and Colin play so well off each other; you can’t help but pick up on their comedic energy. And Mackenzie Crook (who was great, btw) definitely tapped into that. My favorite scene was the fight scene. ROFL. And as if Merlin’s very girly fighting skills weren’t hilarious enough, Arthur’s expressions just about killed me. ^_^ I haven’t laughed so hard in a while.

However, despite the sheer hilarity, I did feel that things were a bit…off with regards to Arthur’s and Merlin’s relationship compared to how they were at the end of season 1. I especially had issues with Arthur using Merlin as a mounting block. That really felt out of place. I’m hoping it was an attempt for a laugh that failed. But I’m putting the distance between the two of them to first episode of the season awkwardness and reserving judgment until I’ve seen the next couple of episodes. And from what I’ve heard in interviews, Arthur and Merlin will have plenty of growth in terms of their relationship, which gives me hope that this was just a weird one-off in terms of the writing and not a regression in their relationship.

But if I harbored any secret fears that the slashiness of this show would be downplayed this season, I’m feeling pretty good right now because there was plenty for my slashy side to squee at. Firstly, there was Merlin being within shouting distance of Arthur’s bed (with Arthur half naked) at night and being the only one allowed in there. I wonder why that would be. XD Then of course, there was Merlin’s immediate jealously toward Cedric. But more importantly, Merlin’s “everything I do is for him.” I wanted to huggle Merlin so much at that line (and hit Arthur).

On a complete shallow side-note, I found Merlin ridiculously hot in this episode, even covered with horse manure (of course, it probably helped to know it was actually chocolate mixed with oatmeal). Arthur wasn’t half bad either, you know, being shirtless quite a bit in it. ^_^

Finally, I completely believe that Merlin sensed that Arthur had been injured. It probably wasn’t exactly the knowledge of the injury itself, but more a sudden desperation and certainty that Arthur needed him right at that moment. Which is why he took the risk of possibly being discovered by blowing the cell door open (I would still like to know how he explained that one later)—because Arthur needed him and nothing else mattered, not in that moment. Merlin even went back to the Great Dragon and promised to do what in Le Morte d’Arthur he swore he would never do—release him—all for Arthur’s sake.

I mean, the focal point of this episode was to display Merlin’s total devotion to Arthur. How could my slasher side not squee in utter delight? Sure Arthur was back to being a royal prat, but that only added to the angst (which I adore, by the way). And I’m certain that they will return to their usual selves in a couple of episodes, if not the next one.

But another thing that I loved in this episode was that while Prince Arthur was a giant clotpoll (best insult ever, y/y?) throughout the majority of this episode, his actions in battle directly contrasted his earlier behavior. During the battle, the future KING Arthur made an appearance. When he defied his father’s wishes to go out to defend his people despite the grave danger, stating it was his duty to his people and to himself, I was so goddamn proud of him. And his expression at seeing his people slaughtered near broke my heart. It was a wonderful reminder that while he can be a total jerk on occasion, he will one day be a magnificent king, caring of his people and brave enough to lay down his life for them. And more importantly, he was the Arthur that Merlin is fighting to protect, despite having to put up with his less than admirable side. So yay for Arthur! ^_^

Finally, I can’t go without mentioning the Arthur/Gwen stuff (because I’m a shamelessly unrepentant multishipper ^_^). I loved their interactions in this episode. They were the definition of short and sweet. Arthur cracked me up so much with his “my pleasure”. And really that wasn’t so much a shippy moment as Arthur being a total guy. Which is exactly how he would act given that he didn’t even realized she existed until late season 1, and even then, it wasn’t in a romantic way. Which is why I really liked the you surprise me line because that is why he is starting to notice her now—because she surprises him. She surprised him by calling him out on his ungratefulness in The Moment of Truth. She surprised him again by not only standing up for the women’s right to fight, but fighting herself as well. And her faith in him surprised him not only in that episode but in Le Morte d’Arthur as well. Now here she is saving his life. Arthur’s discovering that this supposedly unassuming maidservant has quite a few surprises up her sleeve, and I love it. ^_^ My only minor issue was the music. It was beautiful, but it was also quite obvious. Talk about waving a flag around shouting Yes, they are going to fall in love this year! I would have preferred something more a bit more subtle. But minor detail, the rest was great, and I’m looking forward to seeing that relationship develop.

So all things told, I thought it was a really good episode. A few minor things here and there, but then again this is my fun cracky wonderful Merlin. You can’t sweat the small stuff else you miss out of all the fun. XD

All in all, a great start for the season. I can’t wait until next Saturday.

*squee* Merlin’s back! ^_^

See, I invited a friend to come over tonight to watch the season 2 premiere of Merlin with me. Which is fantastic. Not since the early days of Atlantis have I had anyone to watch a show with me first run. It's going to be fun. Pizza, alcohol, Merlin. A perfect combination.

One problem: I invited her over for 6:00pm. It's 3:45pm and my download is almost done. If I hadn't invited her over, I would be able to watch it in...3 minutes! ACK! And she not off work yet. *cries* Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait. Even though I don't wanna. *sadface*

MERLIN! TWO HOURS! SHE HAD BETTER BE ON TIME!!!

Our air conditioner is out. Which means its really hot in house seeing as it is still summer down here in Florida. And I can't sleep when it's too hot. Which is random fact #1 and the reason I'm doing this.

#2. I got new glasses today.

#3. I have a pet lizard. Sort of. See, there is a lizard that has been living outside my bedroom window for the past couple of months. I know it's the same one because he has a malformed tail. I've named him Mal.

#4. I'm terrified of doing things for the first time by myself. I prefer the security of having someone else with me when I do something I've never done before.

#5. I'm intimidated by authority figures. Except my parents. They don't count.

#6. I believe in ghosts but not in aliens.

#7. I discovered tonight that both my parents want to be cremated when they die. Personally, I'm horrified by the idea. I'm also horrified by the idea of being embalmed then put on display at my own funeral. Ironically, the thought of death itself doesn't disturb me all that much.

#8. My eyes change color. On any given day they can be blue, grey, green or any combination thereof.

#9. I hate spiders.

#10. My favorite movie is Star Trek, my favorite song is All Over You by The Spill Canvas, and my favorite authors are Stephanie Laurens and Madeline Hunter.
