Well, I missed the first 15 minutes of Universe because the CABLE WAS OUT!!! But once the cable came back on, I watched it. It was good, I think. Intriguing. Something I can definitely tune into every week.

It was Stargate but definitely a different breed of Stargate. It's hard to describe really. I mean, it's easy to describe the differences from the previous incarnations--its darker, grittier, more real--but how to explain what still made it feel like Stargate? Something in the way it was written, the dialogue and line delivery, the way it was filmed? I don't know. But even without the Stargate and Jack and Carter, it still felt like Stargate.

But also very different from what has come before. Certainly, it will never replace Atlantis in my heart and I don't think I'll adore it the same way I adored SG-1, but I think I will enjoy it.

So, since I'm eagerly awaiting the premiere of Stargate: Universe, I decide I would watch the premiere of Atlantis to pass the time. My goodness, I forgot how good this show was. I'm remembering why I fell in love in the first place. Beautiful score, great humor, good action and pretty visuals (and people). Oh, Atlantis, you were gone before your time. Hopefully, Universe will be just as good. Only, it will never be as fun. *sigh*

Anyway, back to Rising, pt. 2.

Torchwood got picked up for a fourth season. I have mixed emotions about that. cut for length and spoilers for COE )

I am excited about season 5 of Doctor Who. ^_^ I'm going to miss Ten (or more, Tennant) but I'm eager to see what Eleven is like. I already adore his clothing choices. TWEED! OMG! And a bowtie. *loves* Plus the new companion looks cute. I can't wait to see them in action. 8D

Another show I'm getting excited about is Stargate: Universe. I was very hesitant about the show at first, but now I think I'm going to enjoy it. After seeing the latest trailer, my mother said it reminded her a little of BSG. Which is true; it does have some similarities. And it will certainly be darker that the previous two Stargates. But while I couldn't watch BSG because it was just too damn depressing, I believe that SGU will retain some of its predecessors' sense of humor. In smaller quantities certainly, but there nonetheless. At least, BSG trailers never made me laugh. But Universe is really starting to appeal to me, so October 2nd is being marked on my calendar.

So is November 17th. I have never been so excited for a DVD release before. And it's the first time I've ever wished we had a Blu-Ray player. But the bloopers and deleted scenes are on the regular DVD release. That's all that really matters to me. There are alternate ways to see all the extra featurettes that the Blu-Ray has--like watching them with a friend who has a Blu-Ray player. ;) *is so excited* November is way too far away.

Tonight's episode wasn't half bad. It was a little slow, but I enjoyed it for the most part. And it wasn't as completely Keller-centric as I feared it would be. There were some good Ronon/Rodney interactions. I giggled at parts, rolled my eyes at others. And I liked SPOILERS )

Overall, I actually really liked this episode, though I suspect it won't be a fan favorite.

And speaking of Stargate, but not Atlantis, I'm back to the "Meh, maybe I will give Universe a try" state. See, I watched an old (mid-season 5) SG-1 episode "Proving Ground" last night. It's a favorite of mine from that season. The episode is about a group of young (early-mid twenties) SG team potentials being trained by SG-1. It's a great episode. And one of the things that was most appealing to me about it was that the characters (who are great, imo) were closer to my age. That's even more true now that I'm actually in my early twenties (as opposed to late teens when I first saw it). And since I loved the episode so much, especially the characters, I thought that maybe TPTB might be able to write a decent show with younger actors/characters. Maybe? Possibly? Hopefully? Maybe? I still have serious reservations, but right now, I'm more likely to give it a honest chance than I was a couple days ago. I told you I keep going back and forth about it.

And on a completely unrelated to Stargate note, I finally figured out what channel Legend of the Seeker will be airing on in my area. *squee* Only six more weeks. Expect icons soon.

WTF?
Seriously? I keep going back and forth about this show. Reading this has me on the skeptical side right now. My reactions: hmmm...; ^_^; fuck no; oh please; *headdesk*; hasn't this been done...twice?

Right now, Stargate: Universe is sounding a lot like Stargate: Universtiy, indeed. But I'm trying to keep in mind that these are subject to change, especially as characters are cast (hopefully with talented actors), but the unoriginality of these characters is depressing. I want to give this show a chance, I really do, but TPTB are making that very difficult for me to do.

Random thought: The "Psycho" character would be a lot more interesting if he was female instead, don't you think?
